This piece is excellent. The contrasting textures lend reality to the artwork. I particularly enjoy the detail to the eyes and the skin. The "warts and all" of the freckles, imperfections and pores that real skin has is reflected on the artists canvas. The contrasting textures I mentioned really stand out when you compare the head hair to the facial hair, to the fur on his coat. His face isn't picture perfect with unknowing artistic airbrushing, and the blend of colours to soften the hair, skin and clothing are in direct opposition to the stark quality of the piercing eyes. The only point I would make against this is that the hair on the top of the head is almost too "soft". Otherwise, this is a very striking work of art.
You have incredible technique, but I think it's a waste to use it to copy the photos, have you ever tried to put something on your own in your works? Interprets photos, and turn them into something different from reality. Is this the true ability of each artist; to see the world from a different perspective. But you can do everything you want
In my opinion Art is a composion of technique, inspiration, imagination and fascination - with this piece he showed that hes a master of one of those categories : technique. More then most of us will ever achieve.
If he also manages to fascinate, motivate and inspirate me to practice to (maybe) someday get to that lvl this is more than just him showing his technique.
I see ur point - but this is just astonishing, so I have to reply to your comment with the word "waste".
Your work is phenomenal, the work on the eyes, I really see the soul of your subject. In your background, where you trying to fade out , or fuzz it for no real depth around the head? This is different than the rest of the painting.... Once again, your attention to detail, focus and technical execution is flawless. All the best, MAL.
