Giuliano de' Medici was a little brother to Lorenzo the Magnificent, the great ruler of Florence during the Italian Renaissance,
and was known to be handsome and sportive. He was assassinated by the Pazzis in their notorious conspiracy against the Medicis in 1478.
He was stabbed 19 times and was only 25 years old.
Michelangelo, who was under the patronage of the Medici family and shared deep friendship with Lorenzo,
sculpted a statue of Giuliano to be surmounted over his tomb.
